Ave! Welcome to the Cohort I Praetoria (COH I PR).
We are a Southern California-based Roman reenactment group portraying a detachment of the Praetorian Guard during the reign of Emperor Trajan. Our members are devoted to the presentation of Roman life around 100 A.D., centered around an elite faction of Roman military.
Cohort I Praetoria participates in two of California's largest events, Old Fort MacArthur Days and Marching Through History. We have a civilian wing that includes patricians, gladiators, entertainers and servants assigned to assist the Emperor's wife who is traveling on the outskirts of Rome under an armed escort of the Praetorian Guard. During her travels, the Empress is the guest of patrician acquaintances who frequently entertain her with gladiator bouts. It is within this encampment that visitors witness, engage in and enjoy a portrayal of the lives of the Empress, her entourage, gladiators and the Praetorian Guard.
As a participant in the 2010 Old Fort MacArthur Days, Cohort I Praetoria was the recipient of the Esprit de Corp Award. We were also awarded Overall Best Group at the 2010 Marching Through History event.
Cohort I Praetoria is also available for public and private festivities, parades and events. We welcome new members who share our devotion to Roman history, our spirit for Roman reenactment, and our support of a close group of members.
